It puts within everyone’s reach the ability to know with great accuracy the solar potential of the houses of this municipality.
The Alpedrete City Council has made a clear commitment to a change in its energy matrix by promoting the use of renewable energies. This study on the municipal solar potential, carried out by CIEMAT with the support of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, is part of this line. The project applies the gSolarRoof model to the municipality’s buildings, yielding encouraging results for the use of solar energy, both in the generation of photovoltaic electricity and in the production of sanitary hot water through solar thermal collectors.
The study is completed with a detailed analysis of the photovoltaic potential of the main municipal buildings (sports center, cultural center, schools…). Its results offer us the degree of coverage of the electricity demand that could be covered with solar energy.
The main conclusion of this study is the great potential of Alpedrete to cover a good part of its domestic energy demands through solar energy, a solution that will undoubtedly contribute to improve the environmental quality of the municipality and the way of life of its citizens.
Integrating solar energy into our daily activities.
The gSolarRoof model was adapted to the municipality of Alpedrete, providing results that quantify the possibilities of solar generation very close to the needs of the population, applying a criterion of maximum coverage. In the case of municipal buildings, the detailed analysis using an “ad hoc” tool shows variable but in any case not negligible results. All these data, taken with the necessary rigor from which the study has started, are an exceptional tool for both citizens and municipal authorities, in their leading role in improving the environmental and quality of life of the municipality and its inhabitants.
